The unveiling of a provincial plaque in October 2001 was part of a larger event to celebrate the Mount Pleasant Group of Cemeteries' 175th anniversary. The Trust was proud to be part of this event to commemorate the historical significance of Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Toronto. During the ceremony, 175 white doves were released. (29K)The Ontario Heritage Trust invites individuals, organizations and communities to apply for provincial plaques. The subject can be a person, place, event, site or structure that represents an important part of Ontario's heritage. Sponsors should be able to demonstrate the subject's historical significance and have a suitable site for the plaque.

Sponsors of approved plaques are expected to share the costs involved. However, those who cannot afford to contribute funds may apply for an exemption from the cost-sharing arrangement.

As well as commemorating Ontario's heritage through plaques, the Trust is committed to monitoring its plaques for damage and maintaining them in good condition. Finding the resources to do this important work is always a challenge.

We invite you to rise to the challenge by making a donation to the Trust specifically for one of our Plaque Programs. Your donation will help ensure that plaques continue to connect Ontarians with their heritage.
