The first step in applying for a provincial plaque is to consult with Trust staff about your idea. Guidelines and applications will be provided and staff will work with your organization and provide recommendations to the Board for its consideration. The Provincial Plaque Program is a cost-sharing program. More information … Many different kinds of plaques can be found throughout Ontario. Were they all created by the Ontario Heritage Trust? The Trust administers two plaque programs – the Provincial Plaque Program and the Local Marker Program. The Trust has unveiled over 1,200 provincial plaques across Ontario to commemorate significant people, places, things or events. The Local Marker Program – honouring people, places or events that are more local in scope (such as founding families) – help community organizations to create their own plaques. Many other plaques appear across the province – from heritage designation markers to plaques erected by the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada. The Provincial Plaque Program commemorates provincially significant people, places and events while the Local Marker Program helps groups create plaques for locally significant subjects. To determine which program best meets your needs, please contact us. Similar to the Provincial Plaque Program, the Local Marker Program follows a set of guidelines. Community organizations are advised to consult with Trust staff before submitting an application for a local marker.
