Welcome to Trails Open Ontario 2009!
This province-wide natural heritage tourism program – an initiative of the Ontario Heritage Trust – promotes trail use and education, natural heritage conservation and stewardship, and physical activity and a healthy lifestyle.
The trail listings that appear on this web page provide a glimpse of just a few of the province's countless trail systems, programs and organizations. With more than 64,000 km (39,768 miles) of trails, Ontario offers outstanding recreational opportunities. Best of all, many trails are open to the public free of charge, giving every citizen an equal opportunity to get out and enjoy nature.
Many of the trail systems, programs and organizations listed on this web page will feature special events throughout the year, including guided hikes, trail dedication ceremonies and community festivals. For information on these events, visit the websites highlighted in each listing.
Special thanks to the Government of Ontario for its support in this endeavour. Thanks, as well, to all of the communities, trail organizations and volunteers that have contributed trail listings.
Ontario's trails are among the province's greatest treasures. They traverse some of Ontario's most beautiful and remote destinations and infuse our urban areas with a healthy dose of nature.
It's time for you and your family to experience everything that Ontario's trails have to offer!
