This provincewide natural heritage program – an initiative of the Ontario Heritage Trust – promotes trail use and education, natural heritage conservation and stewardship, and physical activity and a healthy lifestyle.
Modelled after the successful Doors Open Ontario program, Trails Open Ontario provides an opportunity for all Ontarians to access and celebrate the remarkable trail systems that exist throughout the province. Among the province’s greatest treasures, trails comprise more than 88,000 km (54,680 miles) of walking, hiking and cycling opportunities throughout Ontario.
On this website, you will find a selection of guided hikes and tours offered as part of this year’s program. Each tour is unique. While most are devoted to hiking, several events are focused on cycling or paddling. Similarly, while many cater to first-time trail users, others are intended for more seasoned users. All of these events are open to the public and free of charge. Whatever you are looking for, there’s sure to be an event suited to you!
The Trust has once again partnered with Conservation Ontario to host Trails Open Ontario events in conservation areas across the province, so many of these events will be advertised directly through Conservation Ontario’s website.
Special thanks to the Government of Ontario for its ongoing support of this endeavour. Thanks, as well, to all the communities, trail organizations and volunteers that have contributed to this year’s Trails Open Ontario program.
It’s time for you and your family to experience everything that Ontario’s trails have to offer!
