TORONTO – Minister of Culture Caroline Di Cocco is pleased to announce the reappointment of The Honourable Lincoln M. Alexander, former Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, as Chairman of the Ontario Heritage Trust – the province's lead heritage agency.
"I'm delighted that the esteemed Mr. Alexander has agreed to continue his work as Chairman of the Ontario Heritage Trust. He brings not only a wealth of experience, but also tremendous enthusiasm and compassion to the role. During his tenure, Mr. Alexander has made invaluable contributions toward raising the profile of heritage conservation in Ontario," said Minister Di Cocco.
First appointed to the Ontario Heritage Trust's Board of Directors in December 2001, Mr. Alexander was designated Chairman in April 2004. The term of his reappointment is to March 2010.
Mr. Alexander served as Lieutenant Governor of Ontario from 1985 to 1991. He was a Member of Parliament from 1968 to 1980, and federal Minister of Labour in 1979. A Companion of the Order of Canada and a recipient of the Order of Ontario, Mr. Alexander has served on numerous public service boards. He is currently Chairman of The Raptors Foundation and Chancellor of the University of Guelph.
In celebration of Mr. Alexander's 85th birthday this year and of the Ontario Heritage Trust's 40th anniversary, the Trust is hosting a special gala event at Toronto's Elgin and Winter Garden Theatre Centre on May 17, 2007. The event will bring together notable Ontarians and heritage enthusiasts to raise funds in support of heritage conservation. More information on the gala will be available on the Trust's website in the coming weeks.
